Every Malayali who lands in Canada asks the same questions in the first weeks. Where do I apply for a health card? Where can I buy matta rice and curry leaves? Is there a church, temple or mosque nearby? Who can help me find a home? The answers usually travel by word of mouth, scattered across dozens of WhatsApp groups.

Oruma (“Malayalee in Canada”) is a volunteer-run community website for Malayalis in Canada, started in Nova Scotia. You can reach us through the Contact us page.
To review and publish listings, jobs, events and articles; to reply to you; to keep the site free of spam and abuse; and to understand which parts of Oruma help people.
Published listings show the details the business provided. Published articles show the author name you chose. Published jobs show the details you entered for applicants. Private contact details you give our editors are never published.
Oruma’s admins and editors. The services that run the site also handle data for us: Supabase (database), Cloudflare (hosting and spam checks), Google Fonts (fonts) and jsDelivr (a code library). They may see your internet address when your browser loads the site. We don’t sell or rent your information, and we don’t use advertising trackers.
Messages and unpublished submissions are deleted once they’re handled, and within 12 months at the latest. Published content stays until you or we remove it. Spam-check records are kept for two days.
You can ask to see, correct or delete information about you through Contact us. You can remove the settings stored on your device by clearing your browser’s site data.
Oruma is meant for adults. If you’re under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before sending us anything.
